BA Dance Practices (Choreography)

Hello, I’m Cheniece, a London based Choreographer, Photographer and First Class honours graduate from BA Dance Practices (Choreography). Through engaging with my final year modules, I found I am fascinated by us as humans; our interactions, curiosities and the engagement with the individual experience. In turn, I explore these ideas in discussion and through movement to shape choreographic work that has the ability to spark observations both from participants, viewers and myself. I have been involved and I am interested in collaborative projects, having previously worked with students from BA Theatre Design and BA Music students. Additionally, I enjoy bringing focus to the body in stillness and motion through photographic explorations; capturing these moments in rehearsal, performance and investigation. I also engage with writing in the forms of poetry, prose and scores, using them as a tool to expand upon my thoughts and encounters.

It Defines, Collaborative Choreographic Project

This project was a collaboration between Theatre Designer Lily Rose Macaulay and myself. It Defines explores the concept of identity and notes how they allows us to connect but equally by stating them, they can be restrictive and a burden to bear. The projection design was key for the presentation of It Defines, as it brought the creative process to the performance space by posing questions from early rehearsals to viewers and providing an alternative reality through live camera cast 360˚ round.

Body In Motion, Photographic Explorations

Attention to the body, a vessel for function, movement and expression. Mesmerised by watching the body move and seeing a sort of 'something' being left. I wonder what that 'something' is? Nothing? A memory? Trick of light? Maybe.. I deem it to be a sort of residue of the body in motion, an emitting of essence in space captured by the long exposure photography. I intend on playing and exposing the body and otherworldly qualities further with the an array of colours and people.

offLINE, Choreographic Work

This project was my final choreographic work at Middlesex, the concept stems from the dancers and my own conversations with peers and family members around having so much to do but not enough time. Often we find ourselves in high pressure situations that need us to keeping pushing on; managing work, health, social lives and all the bits in-between. It is here in these times we pause, burn out, break, come off our lines of life- to re-evaluate, organise and feel.. before resuming 'online'.
