Dance at Middlesex University @ MOVE IT 2022

MOVE IT is the world’s biggest dance event that celebrates a love of dance and the performing arts. The three-day show takes place at ExCel London in March and brings together 31,389 people from across the performing arts community.
A team of 25 students and 6 staff contributed to a range of activities including panel talks, semi- professional classes, and performances. Undergraduate dancers from across year groups had the opportunity to form a company in the creation of an original work for the events Main Stage. The company worked intensively with Dance Artist, Lecturer and Flawless member Leroy Dias Dos Santos to explore the depth of artistry and development that Middlesex has to offer. The performance piece The Birth highlights the versatility and skill of the Dance at Middlesex cohort and offers a message of hope, courage, and resilience in 2022. The creative project provided students with a glimpse into working at a professional level as a company, building individual skill sets and offering opportunity for artistic development.
The Birth was a resounding success at the MOVE IT platform, having a sell-out audience in the Showcase Theatre and an audience of 300+ on the MAIN STAGE. Since the event, the company have further presented the work, offering excellent opportunities for the undergraduate performance cast. Further presentations include the Barnet Schools Dance Festival at Arts Depot Theatre, the New Horizons Dance Festival, the Vice Chancellor’s Inauguration ceremony and the Arts and Creative Industries Degree Showcase at Middlesex University.
The piece was created specifically to celebrate the excellence of Dance in Higher Education and champion University dance students' exceptional skills. Shining a light on University Dance training as excellent and of equal value than its vocational counterparts.
